“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, To put to rout all that was not life and not when I had come to die Discover that I had not lived.”

- Henry David Thoreau, 1817-1862

Control your own destiny

"So the principles of warfare are: Do not depend on the enemy not coming, but depend on our readiness against him. Do not depend on the enemy not attacking, but depend on our position that cannot be attacked." Sun Tzu.

Sun Tzu reminded us of something we all have complete control over: ourselves. Even if we ignore everything else, we can remain safe if we concentrate on our own progress and defense. The opponent may know how to win, but he cannot necessary do it because we have prepared for him.

What this also means is we should never rely solely on outside factors to help us. The chances of victory are greatly diminished because these factors may be out of our influence and thus out of our control. Be as independent as possible from others, and in turn, more in control of your own destiny...
